Overview

Cyramza (ramucirumab) is a medicine used to treat stomach cancer (that got worse during or after a certain another type of chemotherapy), colorectal cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. This medication interferes with the growth of cancer cells in the body. This medication comes in the form of an injection and it is given as an infusion every 2 to 3 weeks by your doctor or nurse. This medicine works by stopping the formation of blood vessels that brings oxygen and nutrients to tumors. This may slow the growth and spread of tumors. 

Pharmacodynamics of Cyramza (ramucirumab) 

Ramucirumab is a VEGFR2 antagonist that specifically binds VEGFR2 and blocks binding of VEGFR ligands, VEGF-A, VEGF-C and VEGF-D. A dose range of 6-12mg administered every two or three weeks. Ramucirumab systematic exposure increased dose proportionally at doses of 8mg and above and steady-state concentrations were achieved at approximately 12 weeks.

General warnings and precautions 

  • Cyramza increase the risk of hemorrhage. 

  • This medication increases the risk of gastrointestinal perforations. 

  • Impaired wound healing can occur in patients who receive drugs that inhibit VEGF and VEGFR pathways. 

  • Infusion related observed reactions that include - back pains, chest pain, chills etc. 

  • Before using this medication tell your doctor about your medical history of kidney disease, high blood pressure, liver disease.
