Mechanism of Action 

It works by blocking the action of abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This in turn helps to slow or inhibit the spread of cancer cells 

Side effects- 

The most common side effects of geftinat include nausea, rash, vomiting and weight loss. It may cause severe diarrhea, drink plenty of fluids or consult the doctor if it happens. It makes the patient sensitive towards sunlight, hence wear protective clothing or use sunscreen while going out.

It inhibits the intracellular phosphorylation of tyrosine kinase associated with epidermal growth factor (EGFR).

Geftinat is slowly absorbed, with peak plasma levels in 3-7 hours after dosing and mean oral bioavailability of 60% 

Shelf life  

Shelf life is the time period over which the concentration of the active medicinal ingredient in the formulation lowers by 10 percent from its value at time of manufacture. 

Its shelf life is 26 months

Precaution 

Consult your doctor before taking this medicine, if you: 

Experience unexplained shortness of breath, cough, and fever that comes on suddenly. These could be symptoms of a serious lung condition. 

Have severe or continuing diarrhea that lasts up to 14 days. 

Experiencing adverse skin reactions like blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, red skin lesions, severe acne or skin rash, sores or ulcers on the skin

Warnings 


General warning and precautions 

Do not take antacids (to reduce the acid level of your stomach) 2 hours before or 1 hour after administering geftinat. 

Diarrhea can occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids and inform the doctor in case if it doesn't stop or there is blood in stools. 

Cautions 

It is usually taken on an empty stomach once a day, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating a meal or snack. Take geftinat at around the same time every day. 

Q What is Gaftinat 

Geftinat 250 mg Tablet is an anticancer medicine used for the treatment of cancer of the lungs. Take the medicine under the supervision of a qualified physician. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with lung and liver diseases 

Q How Gaftinat works 

Epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) are expressed on the lung cancer cell surfaces that regulate their growth. This medicine works by binding the chemical messenger, EGFR, thus inhibits the cancer signaling pathways. This is how the medicine inhibit further growth of the cancer cells.

Q How to use Giftinat 

Giftinat 250mg Tablet is a pill to be administered orally, once a day without food as prescribed by the concerned specialist. Take Giftinat 250 mg Tablet empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 house after meals. Take it the same time each day so that you remember when to take it 

Q What happens when I miss a dose

Interactions 

Medicine interaction 

  • Warfarin 

  • Ranitidine, cimetidine, famotidine, omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole)

Disease interaction 

The drug is contraindicated in patients who have suffered or are suffering from glaucoma, cardiac disorders, lungs or liver disorders or renal malfunctioning

 Alcohol interaction

Food interaction 

The patient should also avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking the medicine. Take with or without food. The absorption is unaffected by food.
