Usage

The malecot flower design is primarily suited for the drainage of thick viscous fluids. This product is used for the percutaneous placement of a malecot catheter in the renal pelvis for nephrostomy drainage. 

The Suprapubic/Malecot Catheter is used in the following conditions: 

• urinary retention 

• urinary incontinence 

• pelvic organ prolapse

• spinal injuries or trauma

• lower body paralysis

• multiple sclerosis 

• Parkinson’s disease

• benign prostatic hyperplasia

• bladder cancer

Adverse events

The Suprapubic/Malecot Catheter can cause the following adverse events after use:

• urine not draining properly

• high fever

• abnormal abdominal pain

• infection

• discharge from the insertion area 

• internal bleeding or hemorrhage

• urine leaking out of the catheter

• a hole in the bowel area 

• stones or small pieces of tissue in the urine

• small amounts of blood in the urine

• discharge from urethra
