Posid (Etoposide) is used to treat certain types of cancer (small cell lung cancer, acute leukemia, bladder cancer, cancer of testicles). It works by suppressing the activity of an enzyme involved in DNA. It helps to stop the growth of cancer cells. It is given as an infusion into the vein. Do not self administer this medicine. Etoposide inhibits DNA topoisomerase II, thereby inhibiting DNA re-ligation. This causes critical errors in DNA synthesis at the pre mitotic state of cell division and can lead to apoptosis of the cancer cell.
