Overview 

Priorix vaccine is used to immunize individuals against three diseases: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. It works to stimulate immunity to protect and fight against the three infections. The Priorix vaccine is administered by a nurse. It is advised to avoid self-administration of this vaccine. It must not be intravascularly administered to the individuals. 

Usage of Priorix 

The Priorix vaccine is administered in two doses. Both doses are necessary for better protection against diseases: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. Its recommended immunization age (as per The Canadian Immunization Guide) is 12 months and above. A second dose is given 1-month post the first dose. Note that it does not ensure protection against any infection other than Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.

Contraindications 

Priorix vaccines should not be administered in some cases. This is because it may lead to adverse conditions due to its interaction with some other disease. Following are some cases where the administration of the Priorix vaccine should be avoided. Other than allergy and diseases, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding a child, you should discuss the effects of this vaccine on your child and check if the benefits are worth managing the risks or not. 

  • Allergy 

    • Neomycin 

    • Gelatin 

    • The previous dose of Priorix injection

    • Any other ingredient of Priorix injection

  • Any active infection 

    • Tuberculosis 

    • Viral fever

    • Bacterial infection 

    • Other severe infection

Does Priorix cause any Side Effects? 

Priorix vaccines may show some side effects for three or more days past the administration of the injection. This is because of the body’s reaction to the new substance that enters inside the body via the injection. Sometimes, side effects can be minimal, moderate, or severe. This range varies in different persons. It is advised to follow the instructions of your healthcare provider regarding the ways to manage such adverse reactions at home.
