Overview

Viraday (Emtricitabine + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + Efavirenz) tablet is a combination of three antiretroviral medications. It is used for the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. This medication belongs to a class of medication known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Viraday tablet boosts your immune system to fight against infection and helps to reduce the amount of HIV in your body and improves the quality of life. It is important to take Viraday tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine in the wrong way as it may lead to some serious side effects.

Pharmacodynamics

Emtricitabine (Viraday):- a synthetic nucleoside analog of cytidine, is phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to form emtricitabine 5'-triphosphate. It inhibits the activity of the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) by competing with the natural substrate deoxycytidine 5'-triphosphate and by being incorporated into nascent viral DNA which results in chain termination. Emtricitabine is a weak inhibitor of mammalian DNA polymerase alpha, beta, epsilon, and mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma.

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (Viraday):- Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate requires initial diester hydrolysis for conversion to tenofovir and subsequent phosphorylations by cellular enzymes to form tenofovir diphosphate. It inhibits the activity of HIV-1 RT by competing with the natural substrate deoxyadenosine 5′-triphosphate and, after incorporation into DNA, by DNA chain termination.

Efavirenz (Viraday):- belongs to the NNRTI (non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors) class of antiretrovirals. Both nucleoside and non-nucleoside RTIs inhibit the same target, the reverse transcriptase enzyme, an essential viral enzyme that transcribes viral RNA into DNA. Unlike nucleoside RTIs, which bind at the enzyme's active site, NNRTIs act allosterically by binding to a distinct site away from the active site known as the NNRTI pocket.

Usage
