Pharmacodynamics of Daunorubicin

Daunorubicin forms complexes with DNA by intercalation between base pairs. It inhibits the topoisomerase II activity by stabilizing the DNA topoisomerase II complex, preventing the religation portion of the ligation- relegation reaction that topoisomerase II catalyzes. Daunorubicin also inhibits polymerase activity, affects the regulation of gene expression, and produces free radical damage to DNA.
