Overview  

Havrix is an active immunization and fights against the disease caused by HAV (Hepatitis A virus). This mediation is used to boost the body’s immune system to stop the infection from spreading Hepatitis A in children and adolescents from 1 year up to and including 15 years of age. Receiving the Havrix vaccine will only protect against HAV and it does not prevent any other type of hepatitis virus. 

Usage 

HAV (Hepatitis A virus) causes an infection of the liver. Havrix gives immunity against hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection by inducing the production of antibodies. The HAV vaccine stimulates the immune-mediated production of anti-Hepatitis A antibodies, allowing for protection against Hepatitis A infection via the production of specific antibodies against the virus and other immune cells that prevent infection with Hepatitis A virus.

Havrix injection may interact with your body function and the medicines you consume. Contraindications 

Here are some things that need to be kept in mind before receiving the dose of the Havrix vaccine. Do not give your child the Havrix vaccine if any of the below mentioned applies to them and if you are not sure contact your medical representative as soon as possible. 

  • Allergic to any of the active ingredients present in this medication.

  • Severe infection with a high-temperature, a minor infection should not be a problem. 

  • Allergic to any other hepatitis A vaccine or neomycin (an antibiotic used to treat skin infections).

Havrix vaccine may cause some side effects and it is an unwanted response of a dosage. Side effects can be mild, moderate, or severe and many of these are easily managed or go on their own. Dosage

  • The Havrix vaccine is given in children and adolescents 16 years and above. 

  • A single dose of Havrix (Freeze-dried Live Attenuated Hepatitis A vaccine) 0.5 ml is injected into the muscle in the upper arm.

  • The first dose of the Havrix vaccine protects your child from infection with HAV within 2 to 3 weeks.

  • To ensure continued protection for at least 40 years, a second dose of the vaccine should be given 6 to 12 months after the first dose.

  • If the date for the injection is missed but a second dose is given within 5 years of the first dose, protection against HAV infection should continue for at least 40 years.
