Havrix is an active immunization and fights against the disease caused by HAV (Hepatitis A virus). Receiving the Havrix vaccine will only protect against HAV and it does not prevent any other type of hepatitis virus.
HAV (Hepatitis A virus) causes an infection of the liver. Havrix gives immunity against hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection by inducing the production of antibodies. The HAV vaccine stimulates the immune-mediated production of anti-Hepatitis A antibodies, allowing for protection against Hepatitis A infection via the production of specific antibodies against the virus and other immune cells that prevent infection with Hepatitis A virus.
