Its intended uses are the drainage of urine from the bladder via the urethra or insertion through a blood vessel into the heart limited to diagnostic causes only.
Adverse Events The following are a few of the adverse effects associated with the use of a urethral catheter: Burning with urination Blood in the urine Urinary Tract Infection Malposition Inadequate Relief of Obstruction Encrustation Stent Fracture Ureteral Erosion or Fistulization Forgotten Stent Contraindications A dual lumen catheter is not intended for use in the following cases: Gross hematuria Evidence of urethral infection Urethral pain or discomfort Low bladder volume/compliance Patient refusal Blood at the meatus
