For patients with mild to moderate blood sugar elevation, especially if new to combination therapy.

Description

Janumet 50/500mg tablet is an antidiabetic medicine used for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes develops when the body does not produce enough insulin.

The medicine contains two active ingredients Sitagliptin (50mg) + Metformin (500mg). Metformin biguanide class belongs to the biguanide class, and Sitagliptin (50mg) belongs to the group class of DPP-4 inhibitors.

They together help combine blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetic mellitus by improving insulin action and reducing glucose production in the body. The tablet is only indicated for use in adults (18 years and older) and should not be given to children.

  • It should be taken with a meal to avoid stomach upset.
  • Taking the tablet twice daily at the fixed time every day to enhance the effectiveness of the medication.
  • Always follow the prescription-based medication to avoid complications during the treatment.

How It Works

The medicine contains two drugs, including Sitagliptin, which increases the level of incretin hormones that help the pancreas release more insulin after meals and reduce the amount of glucose produced by the liver. Metformin works by decreasing glucose production in the liver, reducing absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity.

Together, they provide more effective blood sugar control than either medication used alone. This combination helps maintain stable glucose levels and reduces the risk of diabetes- related complications.
