HIV Infection

How It Works

  • Tenvir EM tablet is a combination of two anti-HIV medicines: Emtricitabine and Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Emtricitabine (Tenvir EM) is a synthetic nucleoside analog of cytidine, is phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to form emtricitabine 5'-triphosphate.
  • It inhibits the activity of the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) by competing with the natural substrate deoxycytidine 5'-triphosphate and by being incorporated into nascent viral DNA which results in chain termination.
  • Emtricitabine is a weak inhibitor of mammalian DNA polymerase alpha, beta, epsilon, and mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma. This medication helps to delay the production of HIV infection and improves the quality of life.
  • This tablet boosts your immune system to fight against infection and prevents the virus from multiplying. It also increases the CD4 cell (white blood cells that protect against infection) count in your blood.

Safety Advice

Alcohol

Avoid the consumption of alcohol while taking Tenvir EM Tablet, as alcohol can reduce the effectiveness of the medicine and worsen the symptoms.

Pregnancy

There is limited data about taking the Tenvir EM tablet while pregnant. You must notify your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant during the course of treatment.

Breast Feeding

Tenvir EM Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding as it may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

Tenvir EM Tablet may cause side effects such as dizziness or lack of concentration, which could affect your ability to drive. So it's better to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.

Kidney

Consumption of Tenvir EM Tablet should be avoided without informing the doctor if you have any kidney-related issues.

Liver

Inform your doctor incase you have any liver-related issues before consuming Tenvir EM.

Missed Doses

  • In case of missing a Tenvir-EM Tablet dose, take the forgotten dose as soon as possible.
  • But if your next dose is just about due, then omit the missed dose and continue your regular dosing regimen.
