Irinotel 100mg/5ml injection is a chemotherapy medication that is used in the treatment of colon and rectum cancer. The generic name of this injection is Irinotecan and it is an antineoplastic enzyme inhibitor. It is not a self-administrable injection and should be injected by a doctor or an experienced nurse only.


Irinotel is an enzyme inhibitor as it blocks the action of topoisomerase I. This enzyme is necessary for DNA replication. As this medication binds to the DNA – topoisomerase complex it consequently stops the replication. It also leads to damaged DNA which triggers cell death. In addition, it showcases antineoplastic properties as it stops the cell growth and metastasis of the tumour cells.
