​Prostate Cancer​

  • Abione (abiraterone acetate) is an anti-cancer medication used to treat adult male patients with metastatic prostate cancer who have reached their limit with regards to hormonal treatments and surgery.
  • Abione targets the CYP17 enzyme, thereby lowering testosterone levels that fuel cancer growth. This form of chemotherapy is often administered in conjunction with steroids such as prednisone or prednisolone due to side effects such as hypertension, hypokalemia, and fluid retention.
  • Indications of Abione include both metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) when the cancer becomes resistant to hormone therapy or surgical intervention, and mHSPC in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (in the early stages).
  • Abione tablets should be taken orally without food, either at least one hour before or two hours after eating. Abione is contraindicated for use by females and children.
  • Some side effects associated with this tablet include joint swelling, diarrhea, edema, fatigue, and hypertension.
