Overview of Afanat

Afanat 40mg tablets is a chemotherapy medication that is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. The generic name of this medication is Afatinib. It is a 4-anilinoquinazoline tyrosine kinase inhibitor that showcases antineoplastic properties that is it inhibits the growth of cancerous cells. It is a medication that has to be prescribed by the doctors.

Pharmacodynamics

Afanat is the first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer. It is a potent and irreversible inhibitor of EGFR. EGFR means epidermal growth factor receptor. When mutations in EGFR arise it consequently leads to uncontrollable growth of the cancerous cells of the lung. Afanat binds to the tyrosine kinase of these growth factors and as a result, blocks their signals. In addition, it stops the auto phosphorylation. Therefore this medication stops the uncontrollable cell division and spreading of the cancerous cells.
