Overview
Arimidex 1mg tablet is a hormone therapy medication that is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Anastrozole is the generic name of this medication, and it is a competitive non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor. This medication is strictly prescription-based. In many breast cancers, estrogen stimulates the uncontrollable growth of cancerous cells. Additionally, aromatase enzymes, which are primarily located in the adrenal glands, can convert androgens into estrogen, and this estrogen, in turn, influences the cancerous cells. Thus, Arimidex is a non-steroidal inhibitor that competitively binds to the aromatase enzyme, thereby stopping the production of estrogen. As a result, it inhibits the growth and spreading of the tumor cells.
