Description
Aromatase is an enzyme in the adrenal glands that transforms hormones into estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) like Exemestane are medications that limit aromatase function in the adrenal glands, lowering estrogen levels. Selective AIs (SAIs) lower estrogen levels while leaving other steroid hormones generated by the adrenal gland alone. It is usually given to women who have received two to three years of tamoxifen.
