Aromasin is an anti-cancer medicine. It is approved for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This medication comprises exemestane (an antineoplastic aromatase inhibitor). It is available in the form of oral tablets of strength 25mg. In some cases, it is also used as an adjuvant treatment for breast cancer. It is usually given to women who have received two to three years of tamoxifen. This drug is taken orally as per the strength prescribed by the doctor.
Aromatase is an enzyme found in the adrenal glands that transform hormones into estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) like Aromasin (Exemestane) are medications that limit the function of aromatase in the adrenal glands, lowering estrogen levels. Selective AIs (SAIs) lower estrogen levels while leaving other steroid hormones generated by the adrenal gland alone.
