Description

Pirfenidone is the best agent with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-fibrotic properties. It helps in improving the function of the lung and reduces the number of acute exacerbations in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Pirfenidone is also known as an active synthetic antifibrotic agent similar to pyridine 2,4-dicarboxylate. This drug blocks the growth factors like - fibroblast, epidermal, platelet-derived, and transforming beta-1, and slows down the spread of tumor cells. Pirfenidone also inhibits DNA synthesis and the production of mRNA for collagen types I and III, resulting in a reduction in radiation-influenced fibrosis.
