Ricovir-L (Lamivudine and Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) tablet is a combination of two antiretroviral medicines. It belongs to a class of medication known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). This medication is used in the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. This medication helps to reduce the amount of HIV in your body and boost your immune system to fight against infection. It is important to take Ricovir-L tablets as prescribed by your doctor. It is advised not to change your regular dosing schedule without taking suggestions from your doctor. The recommended dose of Efamat medicine is decided by a doctor according to your previous medical condition and response to the treatment.
Lamivudine (Ricovir L):- It is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) with activity against Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) and Hepatitis B (HBV) to disrupt viral DNA synthesis. Lamivudine can form active metabolites when phosphorylated, that compete for incorporation into viral DNA. Via DNA incorporation, lamivudine metabolites inhibit the activity of the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme and then act as a chain terminator of DNA synthesis.
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Ricovir L): It is an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. This compound requires initial diester hydrolysis for conversion to tenofovir and subsequent phosphorylations by cellular enzymes to form tenofovir diphosphate. Tenofovir diphosphate works to inhibit the activity of HIV-1 RT by competing with the natural substrate deoxyadenosine 5′-triphosphate and, after incorporation into DNA, by DNA chain termination. It is known to be a weak inhibitor of mammalian DNA polymerases alpha, beta, and mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma.
Ricovir-L tablet is a combination of two anti-HIV medicines: Lamivudine and Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. This medication is not a permanent cure for HIV infection. It prevents the virus from multiplying and also increases the CD4 cell (white blood cells that protect against infection) count in your blood. Close monitoring of liver function and kidney function is required during treatment with this medication. Do not take Ricovir L tablet in the wrong way as it may lead to some severe side effects. If you experience any symptoms while receiving this medicine, inform your doctor immediately.
Ricovir-L tablets can interact with other medications and it may increase the risk for side effects. Don’t forget to disclose and discuss your previous medical history with the doctor.
