Trustiva (Emtricitabine + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + Efavirenz) tablet is used in the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). This medication boosts your immune system to fight against infection and prevents the virus from multiplying. Trustiva tablet increases the CD4 cell (white blood cells that protect against infection) count in your blood. It is advisable not to change your regular dosing schedule without taking suggestions from your doctor. If you experience any signs and symptoms while receiving this medicine, inform your doctor immediately.
Emtricitabine (Trustiva):- a synthetic nucleoside analog of cytidine, is phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to form Emtricitabine (Trustiva) 5'-triphosphate. Emtricitabine inhibits the activity of the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) by competing with the natural substrate deoxycytidine 5'-triphosphate and by being incorporated into nascent viral DNA which results in chain termination.
Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (Trustiva):- is an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate inhibits the activity of HIV-1 RT by competing with the natural substrate deoxyadenosine 5'-triphosphate and, after incorporation into DNA, by DNA-chain termination.
Efavirenz (Trustiva):- belongs to the NNRTI (non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors) class of antiretrovirals. Both nucleoside and non-nucleoside RTIs (reverse transcriptase inhibitors) inhibit the same target, reverse transcriptase enzyme, an essential viral enzyme that transcribes viral RNA into DNA. RTIs bind the enzyme's active site, NNRTIs act allosterically by binding to a distinct site away from the active site known as the NNRTI pocket. Efavirenz is not effective against HIV-2, as the pocket of the HIV-2 reverse transcriptase has a different structure, which confers intrinsic resistance to the NNRTI class.
